Description

Shop Premises with Offices or Apartments. Built c1930. Restrained Art Deco styling. Some shop fronts remodelled. Cream faience cladding to GF. Red brick with stone dressings to upper facade. String course above 2nd floor windows surmounted by upstanding brick parapet. Flat roof. 3 storeys. 5 bays. Outer bays slightly projecting and treated as curtain wall elements extending through 1st and 2nd floors, sub divided by wide fluted stone ?mullions?. Storey height metal framed glazing separated by bronze spandrel panels bearing Art Deco relief decoration. Narrow centre bay contains stone dressed arched opening to passage. Original metal gate survives. Cantilevered balcony above, with ironwork balustrade. Heavy ?Egyptian style? stone frame contains balcony access doors. Decorative brick/terra cotta panel on 2nd floor Generally, small paned metal casement windows, storey height on 1st floor. Some original metal framed shop fronts with decorative glass to top lights survive.
