Description | Public House owned by Hardy Hansons. C18 in origin, possibly earlier. Perhaps originally red brick and later rendered. Simple Georgian styling. C18 rear ?outrigger? bears date 1758, picked out in blue brick. Later Early C19 red brick extension to rear (fronting Pack Horse Lane). Quite plain. Pitched slate roofs. Tall brick gable stacks with corbelled heads, probably rebuilt. Slender eaves stack to extension looks fragile and at risk. Expressed stone surround to GF openings uncharacteristic of E Midlands. Unusual corner opening at junction with Pack Horse Lane - may have been a door originally. Windows are replacements, out of period but not too intrusive. Notable engraved milestone on Woodgate fa |
