Keeping the electoral register up-to-date

To ensure we hold the correct details on our electoral register we undertake an annual canvass of all households in the borough each year.

We write to every household in the borough asking them to check whether the information that appears on the electoral register for those living at their address is correct.

If you do not receive a form or you require help completing any of the forms you receive, please contact the Electoral Services team on:

Annual canvass

The annual canvass form (household enquiry form) is not a registration form, but using the information provided we will then send a separate individual registration form to all the people in your household, who are eligible and not already registered.

Please do not assume that because you were registered last year that your name will be automatically included in this year's register. Also, being on the Council Tax Register does not automatically mean that you are on the Register of Electors, the two registers contain different information.

The Register of Electors is often used to confirm an individual's address, especially if they are applying for credit such as a mortgage, personal loan or even a mobile telephone. It is particularly important that anyone who has moved address recently looks out for the form and checks whether they are registered.

What you need to do

When you receive the letter and form, please read it carefully and act on it. Every household must respond to the form even if there are no changes to the information.

You will also need to provide us with the details of any 16 and 17 year olds living at your address as they are eligible to register (but will not be able to vote until they are 18).

It’s quick and easy to respond and you can do so using one of the following methods:
