Adaptations for tenants with disabilities

If you or a member of your household has a disability, you may be eligible for a grant to help make necessary changes to your home. The Disabled Facilities Grant can help you with home adaptations costing over £1,000.

An adaptation is an alteration to your home that will help a disabled person live as independently as possible.

  • Grab rails / additional stair rails
  • Half steps
  • Ramps
  • Lower thresholds
  • Key safes
  • Lever taps
  • Over bath showers / level access showers
  • Hard standing / dropped kerb
  • Stair and vertical lifts


How to apply for an adaption

To apply for an adaption contact the County Council's Adult Social Care service:

You will be asked to provide information about the medical condition that is affecting the way you live.  This information is very important and helps Social Services to assess your needs and prioritise your application.
