Get involved in the Big Garden Birdwatch at the Outwoods

Published: Fri 12th January, 2024

Residents in Charnwood are invited to book onto a birdwatching event at the Outwoods in Loughborough.

Charnwood Borough Council’s open spaces partner idverde is working in partnership with the RSPB to host the free event which will encourage people to take part in the RSPB’s annual Big Garden Birdwatch.

The event will take place on Sunday January 28 and people must book their place in advance. Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

There are two 90-minute sessions available, and people can either book a space at the 10.30am or 12.30pm session.

People booked on will be able to collect up to two birdboxes for house sparrows and starlings.  They will also be able to take part in a self-led bird walk around the ancient woodland site and have a go at making a bird cake for their garden at home.

Nicola Clarke, community engagement officer at idverde said: “I am pleased we are able to offer these sessions in partnership with the RSPB and hope residents will book on to come and learn about the local birds and wildlife that live in the borough.”

Big Garden Birdwatch is the world’s largest garden wildlife survey. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people take part, helping to build a picture of how garden birds are faring.

All ages and abilities are welcome to attend the event.
