Taxi Licensing Enforcement and Licensing Policy

Below is some useful information about how we enforce the regulations and restrictions which Charnwood taxi drivers are expected to follow.  

Penalty Points Scheme

The aim of this scheme is to identify licensees who repeatedly breach conditions or byelaws. Drivers will be notified in writing where points have been issued for specific offences as detailed in the penalty point scheme (Schedule 5).

Any points issued will remain on record for 36 months from the date of issue of the points. Should any licensee be issued 12 points in a rolling 36 month period, the matter will be referred to our Licensing Sub-Committee and the licensee’s fitness to hold a licence will be put to consideration.

Penalty points issued under this scheme do not count as endorsements on the DVLA licence, only on the combined driver's licence issued by Charnwood Borough Council.
