Thu 21st March, 2019, 12:45pm to 1:45pm

The Capriccio Ensemble’s reputation continues to flourish. Hear them today in two virtuosic quintets.

Jonathan Dove: "Piano Quintet"
Dohnanyi: "Piano Quintet" in C minor Op 17.

The ensemble comprises - Clare Pitchford and Eleanor Graff-Baker - Violin, Liz Paling - Viola, John Bean - Cello and Jeremy Kimber - Piano.Contemporary

British composer, Jonathan Dove’s Piano Quintet was written ten years ago. The final movement is especially compelling with driving rhythms and an ever-increasing number of notes!

Dohnányi’s Piano Quintet in C minor is his Opus 1. Even Brahms rated it highly and arranged for it to be performed in Vienna soon after it’s premier in Budapest in 1895. The lusciously lyrical slow movement is worthy of the more famous composer. The whole quintet brims with singable melodies and, like the Rachmaninov Sonata performed in February’s concert, has a piano part worthy of a concerto! Not bad for a composer’s first published work.

The concert starts at 12.45 but soup & roll lunch is served from 12.00.

Admission is free but donations are appreciated.
