An online talk night hosted by Modern Painters, New Decorators on overcoming creative blocks during adversity.
ABOUT GRAPEFRUIT :
● Named after Yoko Ono’s conceptual art book, Grapefruit brings together three 20 minute talks which discuss the topic “ How Can We Overcome Creative Blocks During Adversity? ”, alongside Q&A sessions.
● Each talk will be led by different creative professionals, these are; G Sian, an arts advisor from UK New Artists ; Modern Painters, New Decorators’ own Learning Coordinator Olivia Venning; and the founders of No Jobs In The Arts , Ryan Boultbee and Charlie Collins.
● The talk night is available to all who want to get involved, and will be broadcast on Zoom so you can join from the comfort of your own home.
● Most creatives have felt the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on their artistic practice.
This talk night will offer bite-sized advice to help you continue your creative practice, support your mental wellbeing and adjust to new methods of working.

An artist advisor from UK New Artists
G Sian is a Leicester-based multidisciplinary creative practitioner, independent producer, tutor and mentor. Mentoring artists through TMoA, his purpose is to exist for others; to shine a light on their process and inherent values; to guide and support their artistic growth. Most recently undertaking the position of City Ambassador for UK New Artists , G nourishes Leicester's arts ecology by engaging with students, artists, and audiences , nurturing the legacy outcomes to ensure the arts and cultural activity of the city become and are meaningfully sustainable.
OLIVIA VENNING
Modern Painters, New Decorators’ Learning Coordinator
Having spent almost 8 years working with charities including; 20/20, Love4Life and The Y(YMCA Leicester), Olivia Venning plays a key role in bringing together community, charity and art within Modern Painters, New Decorators . Her charity work at Love4Life involved supporting vulnerable teenage girls, building improved confidence and enabling them to make positive choices. Olivia currently splits her time between Modern Painters, New Decorators and her work with The Y Charity.
RYAN BOULTBEE & CHARLIE COLLINS
Founders of No Jobs in the Arts
Founded by local early-career artists and emerging curators Ryan Boultbee & Charlie Collins, No Jobs in the Arts is a project that supports emerging artists and creatives in the East Midlands. Creating opportunities that promote collaboration across the region by working with local emerging artists, creatives, and organisations, their work creates links between creatives to support the next generation of visual artists in the East Midlands.
ABOUT MODERN PAINTERS, NEW DECORATORS
Modern Painters, New Decorators is an artist-led organisation running a gallery, shop and studios from a shopping centre in Loughborough, East Midlands. We enable artists to re-energise the local by producing free contemporary art exhibitions, artist-produced products and creative membership schemes. The project was started in 2017 by artists and makers with a connection to the town.
