Work is being carried out at the Outwoods in Loughborough throughout 2019 to improve the visitor experience.

The £140,000 of funding has been provided by The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development to support the development of tourism throughout the year in the area.

Work started in January 2019 on the following areas:

Natural play area

The Council have been awarded around £140,000 of European funding by the Rural Payments agency to improve visitor facilities.

The natural play area has been inspired by the natural elements of the Outwoods and will consist of:

  • Dwelling Den with slide
  • Clamber stack den with a raised play deck and balance beam
  • A scramble net suspended between stacked logs
  • Monkey bars
  • A hammock
  • Space for den building

The natural play area at the Outwoods opened in April 2019 and photos can be viewed on the Council's Facebook page.

Open and covered events area

An open events area will be introduced for family picnics and to provide space for marquees and larger events.

The covered events area will allow more activities to run throughout the autumn and winter months and will include a number of timber benches for seating.

Improvements to the car park

Access will be widened to allow two-way traffic in and out of the car park. The existing gates and pillars will be removed, the wall will be repaired and a new set of wider gates will be installed.

To improve safety around the car park entrance, speed bumps and one way flow plates will be introduced.

Please note there will be no access to the car park during the removal of the old pillars and installation of the new gates.

Upgrading the drainage system

The existing septic tank and sewages system has been replaced.
