Economic development and regeneration

Top tasks:

The Economic Development and Regeneration team provides help and advice to businesses, promotes local business and advises potential inward investors.

It also provides a wide variety of economic information and maintains an online business directory.

The service also manages regeneration programmes and projects in priority areas which work together to improve the social, economic, physical and environmental well-being of local communities.

Examples of these might be a programme to help new businesses get started across the borough, or a programme to reduce crime in particular communities, or administration of the Growth Support Fund and grant scheme to support local initiatives delivering economic growth.

Watermead Regeneration Corridor

The Watermead Regeneration Corridor is a strategic priority in the Charnwood Regeneration Strategy and the Charnwood Local Plan Core Strategy. It provides an opportunity to support the regeneration of Thurmaston, maximise the potential of the Watermead Country Park and improve access for pedestrians and cyclists where physical barriers exist.

We have been working with specialist consultants, the local community and other stakeholders to bring together a Regeneration Framework including an Action Plan. This final Watermead Regeneration Framework and Action Plan can be viewed below.
