On February 27, 2023, Charnwood Borough Council approved a recommendation to amend rents and charges for council properties with effect from April 3, 2023.
The proposed changes are in line with government guidelines which, for this coming year, mean that the rent will be increased by 7.0%.
Service charges, where applicable, may change as well.
Service charges
These are identified separately on your letter and cover the cost of any service you receive. These charges may include heating and a charge for communal facilities. If you would like a breakdown of these charges, please contact us 01509 634666.
Housing Benefit
Depending on your circumstances you may be able to apply for housing Benefit to help pay your rent. To claim you should contact the Housing Benefit team on 0345 6091258 or you can apply online.
Universal Credit
You can get assistance with your rent if you are claiming universal credit.
Each year you need to report the correct rent, so when your rent increases you should wait until you receive a 'to do' request from universal credit and follow the instructions. You can only report rent changes on or after the date of the increase, not before, otherwise it will not register.
