Real Christmas trees can be disposed of at a local tip.
The three tip sites in Charnwood are at:
Tree collections for garden waste service subscribers
We will also collect real trees from subscribers to our garden waste service. Customers with a garden waste bin can present the tree at the side of the bin and it will be taken. The Christmas trees go to the tip in Lount to be composted with our garden waste.
Trees should not be over 6ft tall (1.8 metres) – if they are they will need to be cut in two.
Collection dates will be between Monday, January 8 to Friday, January 19, 2024.
Please check My Charnwood to find out when your next garden waste collection will be.
Please note: The garden waste service is suspended for two weeks during the Christmas period: Monday December 25, 2023 until Friday January 5, 2024. The service will assume from Monday January 8, 2024.
Composting Christmas trees at home
It is possible to compost Christmas trees at home. You’ll find some advice on the Less Waste Christmas composting webpage.
Artiticial Christmas trees
Artificial Christmas trees cannot be recycled, but they can be reused:
- If in good condition donate to a local reuse organisation or charity
